This painting is part of my ongoing bird series, celebrating the beauty, character and quiet presence of Australia’s birdlife. The Black-shouldered Kite captivated me with its striking gaze, delicate feather patterns and elegant posture. Perched lightly on a branch, it appears both watchful and serene, embodying the balance of strength and grace found in nature.
Working in watercolour allowed me to explore the softness of its plumage while capturing the subtle interplay of light across its feathers. A restrained palette and minimal background draw attention to the bird itself, inviting the viewer to pause and connect with its quiet dignity.
Through this series, I aim to highlight not only the visual beauty of birds but also their individuality and spirit, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the remarkable wildlife that surrounds us.
